If there’s one lens to be called the ultimate Soviet legend it would be the HELIOS-40 1.5\/85. It’s swirly bokeh inspired many into trying the vintage glass, and really, what this lens can do in the right conditions, blows everything else out of the water – vintage or modern.<\/p>\n

Just google “Helios-40” or “Helios-40-2”\u00a0if you haven’t heard about this lens, check the\u00a0\u00a0images it produces\u00a0and you\u00a0will realize what you’ve been missing!<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0This half a century lens old can produce\u00a0images which will turn many heads!<\/p>\n

Creates beautiful Biotar style bokeh \u2013<\/p>\n

out of focus highlights are rendered as beautiful discs(in the right conditions),<\/p>\n

making the background swirl slightly.<\/p>\n

Very early lens – serial number starts with triple zero –<\/p>\n

Lens barrel has some signs of use \/ age.<\/p>\n

Glass is clean and clear \u2013 has no fungus, no haze. Under front element there are multiple micro scratches that are visible in reflected light only(looks like amateurish attempts to remove fungus). The lens is clear and transparent though, the micro abrasions are unlikely to significantly affect image quality in real life photography.<\/b><\/p>\n

Some internal dust is also present, but will not have any effect on photos.<\/p>\n

Mechanics are good \u2013 focus is uniform, a little on s stiff side.<\/p>\n

Aperture blades are free from oil.<\/p>\n
