A classic yellow filter for black & white film, in a small leather pouch.
Colour filters are used in Black&White photography to control how colours are converted to shades of grey. A yellow filter darkens a blue sky so the clouds stand out, and adds a little contrast to landscapes.
ЖС-18 is the Soviet grade of the yellow optical glass (ЖС = жёлтое стекло, yellow glass). This one is a snap-on (slip-on) filter in a polished metal ring, 36mm in size, so it pushes onto the front of a lens with a matching 36mm barrel instead of screwing in.
