Soviet 40.5mm yellow filter ЖС-12 (светофильтр ЖС-12 40,5х0,5) in original bakelite box
MADE IN USSR!
A yellow filter for black & white film, in its original screw-top bakelite box.
Colour filters are used in Black&White photography to control how colours are converted to shades of grey. ЖС-12 is a lighter yellow, the mildest of the Soviet yellow grades: it darkens a blue sky only slightly and keeps skin tones natural.
ЖС is the Soviet grade of yellow optical glass (ЖС = жёлтое стекло, yellow glass). The filter screws into a 40.5×0.5 thread, the filter size of Soviet rangefinder lenses such as the Jupiter-8, Jupiter-3, Jupiter-12 and Industar-26M, and of any other lens with a 40.5mm filter thread.
