A classic yellow filter for black & white film, in a small leather pouch.
Colour filters are used in Black&White photography to control how colours are converted to shades of grey. A yellow filter darkens a blue sky so the clouds stand out, and adds a little contrast to landscapes. It is the filter many B&W shooters simply leave on the lens.
ЖС-17 is the Soviet grade of the yellow optical glass (ЖС = жёлтое стекло, yellow glass). The filter screws into a 40.5×0.5 thread, the filter size of Soviet rangefinder lenses such as the Jupiter-8, Jupiter-3 and Industar-26M, and of any other lens with a 40.5mm filter thread.
