Soviet 40.5mm yellow filter ЖС-17 (светофильтр ЖС-17 40,5х0,5) in original bakelite box
MADE IN USSR!
A yellow filter for black & white film, in its original screw-top bakelite box.
Colour filters are used in Black&White photography to control how colours are converted to shades of grey. ЖС-17 is a medium yellow, the classic ‘leave-it-on’ B&W filter: it darkens a blue sky so the clouds stand out and adds a little contrast to landscapes.
ЖС is the Soviet grade of yellow optical glass (ЖС = жёлтое стекло, yellow glass). The filter screws into a 40.5×0.5 thread, the filter size of Soviet rangefinder lenses such as the Jupiter-8, Jupiter-3, Jupiter-12 and Industar-26M, and of any other lens with a 40.5mm filter thread.
Filter: ЖС-17 yellow
Thread: M40.5×0.5
Markings: ЖС-17, factory logo, 40,5×0,5
Made in Soviet Union
Comes with its original black bakelite box. Note: the box carries an original paper label for the ЖС-12 grade («ЖС-12 к объективам Юпитер 3,8 и 12»), while the filter itself is marked ЖС-17. The boxes were shared between grades and this one has been paired that way.
Condition: good vintage condition. See photos for cosmetics.
