Soviet 58mm filter set (светофильтры М58х0,75) in leather case
MADE IN USSR!
Four filters for black & white photography, two adapter rings and the case to carry them in.
Colour filters are used in Black&White photography to control how colours are converted to shades of grey. A yellow filter darkens a blue sky and brings out the clouds. A yellow-green filter does the same and also renders foliage and skin tones more naturally. The neutral density filter changes no colours at all: it cuts the light by two stops, so you can shoot a fast lens wide open in bright sun or use a slower shutter speed.
The Soviet marking reads simply: the letters give the colour (Ж = yellow, ЖЗ = yellow-green, Н = neutral) and the number gives the filter factor, i.e. how much to increase the exposure.
All four filters have the M58x0.75 thread. The two adapter rings let you use them on lenses with a 52mm or a 40.5mm filter thread too.
Filters: Ж-1.4x (light yellow), Ж-2x (yellow), ЖЗ-1.4x (yellow-green), Н-4x (neutral density, 2 stops)
Thread: M58x0.75
Adapter rings: 52×0.75 and 40.5×0.5
Made in Soviet Union
Comes with the black leather hard case: two hinged halves with flocked recesses that hold the filters in stacks, closing on press studs.
Condition: good vintage condition. The case shows light wear to the leather. See photos for cosmetics.
